A new one-acre garden in Collingwood has been growing the beer brewing and events business for a local taproom.

Collingwood Brewery recently opened a new beer garden featuring an outdoor bar, extensive seating, lawn games, a stage and a big screen in the hopes of making the Sandford Fleming Drive location a destination and entertainment hub.

Collingwood Brewery Retail Manager Scott Smith said the pandemic has led to an increased appetite for outdoor dining and event spaces. Plans for the beer garden were expedited, and Smith has been working to fill the schedule of events.

The Summer Concert Series is already underway, beginning with two sold-out shows featuring the 12-piece brass-funk band My Son the Hurricane. Coming up on June 25 roots-reggae band The Human Rights will take to the stage. The series wraps up with KC Roberts and the Live Revolution on July 30 and The Honeyrunners on August 27.

Every Sunday there's an open mic night in the garden.

"We've been supporting live music throughout the pandemic, and we are giving an opportunity for artists every chance we get," said Smith.

The space is also being used for the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust's Be The Change film series and has been hosting an ongoing fundraiser for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society, which includes a special brew: Happy Tails Hazy Session Ale.

"We're trying to work with as many community groups as possible," said Smith.

Other events on tap at Collingwood Brewery include Babies and Brews -- a networking event for parents with babies -- and Craft Beer Yoga.

Smith has organized what he calls eclectic events such as retro video game nights, and he's got his sights set on a horseshoe tournament in the future.

The Brewery outsources its kitchen, bringing in food trucks every weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Coming up at the Brewery is the Reel Rock film screening hosted by Free Spirit Tours and Muskoka Mountainworks on June 18, Beer and Yoga on Saturday at 11 a.m., a paint night on June 22, and the next concert in the summer series on June 25.
