RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A marketing company has proposed a 40-foot billboard on Route 17 in Ridgewood, and the village's Zoning Board of Adjustment will hear the application Tuesday night.
The applicant, Outfront Media, is asking to build the billboard at 500 Route 17. The site is between an office building and an Exxon.
The sign dimensions are 10 feet, six inches by 35 feet, eight and a quarter inches. The billboard would have an LED screen on each side, with each screen being about 375 square feet.
An attorney for AK Realty LLC, the owner of the office building, said the company objects to the proposal.
"The billboard would face my client's office building and shine directly into the windows," Attorney Douglas Standriff told Council in a letter last November.
The sign would change every eight seconds in accordance with NJ Department of Transportation regulations, the application said. The sign also "will instantly change copy and not be animated, blink, or flash."
Outfront Media said the LED technology on their sign makes it more efficient to change what's on it.
"In addition to convenience, and providing flexibility to the advertiser, the ability to immediately and remotely change sign copy makes LED signs ideal for posting emergency alerts such as Amber Alerts, police notices, and weather warnings," the applicant wrote.
NJDOT issued a state permit to Outfront for the sign, according to the application.
Ridgewood Village Council will hear the proposal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Plan details and documents are available on the village website.
