It is easy to spend thousands on a large OLED TV, but if you are not obsessed with having the darkest blacks possible or fancy Dolby Vision HDR, then you can pick up some amazing buys at the lower end of the spectrum.

I have never heard of the German TV brand METZ, before, but at IFA 2022, they are launching a range of TVs in the UK which have incredible value for money.

One of the big selling points is the integration of Roku for smart functions. Cheap smart TVs will often have poor smart features, and even my Sony AF8 running Android TV is a relatively unpleasant experience. With Roku, you have all the features you want in a fast and user-friendly interface which should receive regular updates.

METZ and Roku have committed to a minimum of 8 years of firmware updates. Spare parts and product support will be available for a minimum of 7 years.

Content available on Roku includes Freeview Play, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, The Roku Channel, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, AppleTV+, Paramount+, NOW, BT Sport, Discovery+, and more, as well as music services like Spotify and Apple Music.

The TVs themselves are basic. They are standard LED LCD panels running at 60Hz. The TVs have multiple HDMI ports, and the HDMI 1 supports eARC, with the TV being able to do Dolby Atmos passthrough. The TVs support HDR10/HLG, but the panel brightness is low at 250cd/m², which is much lower than the 400 cd/m²+ you would want for HDR.

METZ Roku TV models will be available from the end of October via amazon.co.uk and selected retail partners.

METZ, the multi-award-winning German TV brand, has announced the launch of a full lineup of Roku TV models in the U.K. at the end of October. METZ’s six Direct LED TVs will be available in both 4K UHD and HD resolutions, in sizes ranging from 32in to 65in.

One of the longest established TV manufacturers in Europe, renowned for its design, technology, and quality, METZ will produce its inaugural line of Roku TVs in two ranges: the 4K UHD MRD6000 series, available in 43in, 50in, 55in and 65in sizes, and the 2K Full HD MTD6000 series, available in 32in and 40in sizes.

“We’re really excited to be bringing these debut Direct LED TVs to the U.K.,” says Rob Peacock, METZ TV’s Commercial Director in the U.K. “We’re confident that their blend of excellent picture quality, stunning aesthetics, and ultra-keen pricing are going to strike a chord amongst cash-strapped buyers here. With the speedy Roku TV OS and Freeview Play on board, as well as USB Timeshifting and Low Blue Light LEDs (to lessen viewing fatigue), these sets look certain to win many new fans.”

“METZ is our third Roku TV partner in the U.K., and together we have developed a range of affordable and easy-to-use Roku TVs that consumers will love,” said Arthur van Rest, VP, International at Roku. “METZ Roku TV models are powered by the Roku TV OS, which offers consumers the best live TV and streaming experience. With a variety of Roku TV models on the market now, it’s never been easier for British consumers to watch, discover, and enjoy the entertainment they love.”

Every Roku TV comes with the Roku TV OS experience built-in, with sizes ranging from 32in to 65in in 4K UHD and HD. With a Roku TV, consumers can stream their favourite shows, movies, or live TV via thousands of free and paid channels, including Freeview Play, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, The Roku Channel, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, AppleTV+, Paramount+, NOW, BT Sport, Discovery+, and more, as well as music services like Spotify and Apple Music.
